Compact Track Loader Undercarriage Replacement Cost (2026)

Undercarriage is the single biggest maintenance cost on a compact track loader. When the tracks wear through or a drive sprocket cracks, you are looking at a significant bill. Here is what the job actually costs in 2026, by component and machine brand.

Rubber Tracks: The First Wear Item

Rubber tracks wear faster than most owners expect. Average track life on a CTL is 1,200 to 1,800 hours under normal conditions. Hard-pack soil and concrete pads wear tracks faster. Soft soil and grass extend track life. Running on asphalt is particularly damaging to the inner drive lugs.

Signs the tracks are near the end: visible cracks in the rubber carcass, missing or broken drive lugs, exposed steel cords in the track body, or excessive slippage on grades.

OEM tracks from Bobcat, Cat, and Deere dealers cost more than aftermarket. The quality gap is smaller than it used to be, but on a high-cycle machine (landscaping, site prep running 8-10 hours a day), OEM tracks wear more predictably. Aftermarket tracks are a reasonable choice on a light-use machine.

Most shops can install a set of tracks in 2-4 hours. The labor cost runs $300-$700 for the set.

Sprockets and Drive Chain

The drive sprocket is the toothed wheel that engages the track drive lugs. On CTLs, the sprocket is driven by the final drive and is the second component to wear after the tracks. Replacing tracks without inspecting the sprockets is a mistake: worn sprockets accelerate track wear on the new set.

On Bobcat CTLs, the sprocket is a bolt-on segment design on many models. Rollers and Idlers

Bottom rollers guide the track between the sprocket and the idler. Most CTLs have 4-6 bottom rollers per side. The front idler is a large smooth wheel that keeps track tension and absorbs impact from forward travel.

Rollers leak grease before they fail. If you see grease on the inside of the track, a roller seal is going. Final Drive Replacement

The final drive is the gearbox that transfers power from the hydraulic motor to the sprocket. Final drive failure on a CTL is a major repair. The usual cause is oil loss from a leaking seal, running the final drive dry, and then bearing or gear failure.

A remanufactured final drive is the best value on most repairs. OEM new drives are $1,500-$3,000 more than reman and rarely justified unless the machine is under warranty or running safety-critical hours where failure is not acceptable. When tracks, sprockets, rollers, and idlers all need attention at the same time (common on machines coming up on 1,500-2,000 hours), shops will often package the work to reduce the labor premium of multiple job setups.
