Compact Track Loader Hydraulic Pump Replacement Cost: Bobcat, Cat, John Deere, Kubota, and More

What does a compact track loader hydraulic pump replacement cost? Real parts and labor ranges for Bobcat T650/T770, Cat 259D3/289D3, John Deere 333G, and Kubota SVL95-2, plus failure symptoms and repair math.

A hydraulic pump failure on a compact track loader takes out everything at once: the lift arms, the auxiliary circuit, and often the drive. On a machine that earns its keep by running tools and moving material in tight spaces, nothing breaks worse. Here is what pump replacement actually costs on the machines you see most in the field.

Compact Track Loader Hydraulic Pump Replacement Cost

Expect to pay $1,800 to $5,800 to replace the main hydraulic pump on a compact track loader. That range covers parts and labor for typical mid-size CTLs. Larger machines with higher-flow pumps sit toward the top of the range.

Parts sourceParts costTotal with labor
Reman / aftermarket$1,000-$2,200$1,800-$4,000
OEM new$2,200-$4,000$3,200-$5,800

Labor runs 4 to 7 hours at $125 to $175 per hour on most CTL models. System flush and filter replacement is not optional after a pump failure: metal debris from a failing pump circulates through the control valve, cylinders, and drive motors. Add $250 to $500 for a proper flush.

Cost by Brand and Model

  • Bobcat T650 / T595 / T770: $1,900-$4,800 total. Bobcat is the most common CTL in North America and has the best reman pump availability of any brand in this class. Aftermarket units from reputable suppliers fit most T-series machines. The T770, Bobcat's largest CTL, uses a higher-flow pump and runs toward the upper end. • Caterpillar 259D3 / 289D3 / 299D3: $2,200-$5,500 total. Cat CTLs run a combined gear pump and tandem piston pump arrangement on larger models. Cat dealer parts carry a premium, but reman availability from independent suppliers is solid. The 299D3, Cat's largest CTL, uses a higher-volume pump that pushes parts cost above the mid-range.
  • John Deere 333G / 331G / 326G: $2,000-$5,200 total. JD CTLs share pump architecture across the G-series lineup. Reman availability is good through both dealer and independent channels. The 333G at 100 hp is the largest model and sits at the upper end of labor time.
  • Kubota SVL95-2 / SVL75-2: $1,900-$4,600 total. Kubota's CTLs use a piston pump system with solid parts support. Reman availability is slightly more limited than Bobcat or Cat, so lead times on parts can be longer in some regions. The SVL95-2 is the most widely serviced Kubota CTL.
  • Case TV450 / TV620: $2,000-$5,000 total. Case CTLs use a tandem gear pump setup. Parts share with the CNH platform, and aftermarket support is adequate. The TV620, Case's largest CTL, uses a larger pump and higher labor time.

How to Tell When a CTL Hydraulic Pump Is Failing

Compact track loader pumps fail along a consistent pattern. Catching it early cuts total repair cost in half by preventing downstream contamination.

  • Slow or weak lift arms. The loader arms rise slower than usual, especially under load. At full bucket weight, the machine hesitates or the arms drift down when held at a height. This is the most common first symptom and comes from the pump losing output pressure.
  • Loss of auxiliary circuit power. Attachments (augers, hydraulic breakers, grapples) lose performance before the lift arms do. The auxiliary circuit runs from the same pump and often shows the pressure drop first because it demands peak flow.
  • Drive feels sluggish or uneven. On CTLs where the drive circuit shares pump output, you may notice sluggish response in one or both tracks before the lift arms slow down. This is common on machines where the hydrostatic and implement circuits draw from the same pump assembly.
  • High hydraulic fluid temperature. A pump bypassing internally generates heat instead of pressure. Hydraulic temp warnings that didn't appear before are a reliable sign of pump wear.
  • Whine or cavitation noise at startup. A high-pitched whine from the pump area, especially when cold, indicates cavitation or internal bearing wear. Some cold-start noise is normal. Persistent or worsening noise is not.
  • Metal in hydraulic fluid. If a filter change or fluid sample shows metallic contamination, the pump's internal components are past early-stage wear. At that point, replacement and full circuit flush are the right call.

What Happens If You Wait

A failing CTL hydraulic pump that continues working sends metal debris through the control valve block, lift cylinders, and drive motors. On a machine with a combined implement and drive circuit, contamination can reach the hydrostatic motors, which are expensive to replace. A pump job that costs $2,500 can become a $5,000 to $7,000 repair when the control valve and one drive motor also need replacement.

The heat factor is the other risk. A bypassing pump overheats the hydraulic fluid on every cycle. Seals in cylinders and motors degrade faster in overheated fluid. A deferred pump replacement accelerates wear on every hydraulic component downstream.

Does the Repair Make Sense?

A 2019 Bobcat T650 in good condition is worth $35,000 to $45,000. A $2,500 hydraulic pump replacement is roughly 6 to 7 percent of that value and puts the machine back to full production. On most CTLs under 5,000 hours with solid undercarriage and a good frame, the pump repair makes economic sense.

The math changes on high-hour machines at 5,000 to 7,000 hours where the tracks are marginal, one drive motor is already soft, and the control valve has not been serviced. Know what the machine is worth before you commit to the repair.
